5.64 miles (total: 1522.52 miles)
Running in the snow is hard. Fun, but hard. I was huffing and puffing, but I've covered the distance needed today. I wish I was wearing my ski goggles, the snow hitting the eyes while running is both annoying and sometimes painful after a couple of miles. I've run some stretches with my eyes closed to avoid contact. You learn to be patient, while doing physically demanding tasks, and I was patient - no matter how long it would take or how much snow, I needed to go beyond 5 miles today (last few days haven't been great). I am glad I went early in the morning. It is a winter wonderland outside, with snow not easing any time soon... I ran in Yaktrax traction cleats and they were perfect in this weather! I didn't have to worry about slipping or sliding and just enjoy running.
And I saw one other kindred spirit running in this weather :) which made me so happy. Behind this simple decision to run in a weather like this there is a sort of sound philosophy "let's make the most out of every day, even if there is a snowstorm - let's improve ourselves as human beings, let's become bigger, let's become stronger, let's become nicer people..." I love seeing other runners - I always wave and there is that strange bond and comradery (even if you don't know that person) that is hard to explain.
It felt good today to run. I slept so well (the body and mind both needed it this week), and the run was wonderful, healing and warming. It reminded me of Wisconsin when we used to live there... that would have been a typical day..
It is still snowing... :) tomorrow will be even more interesting.
Day 264.
